Quiet, fifteen-year-old Simon wants nothing more than to be left alone. His mother suffocates him. His older sister shuns him. His younger sister, he thinks, deserves much better. For what looks to the rest of the world like unwarranted teenage angst is in fact a suffering child’s desperate cry for help; and his mother conceals a house of unspeakable horrors beneath her perfect smile and manicured lawn.

Somewhere on the Internet, a blog is created to chronicle the daily life of a single mother with “two children.” It’s one of many. Simple. Harmless. Even quaint. But as time goes on, the blog’s owner begins to spiral into madness — or perhaps she simply grows more and more comfortable revealing the monster that was always there to begin with.
